NFL Awards 2011
Here is my take on who takes each reward in the NFL this year.
Offensive Rookie of The Year
Cam Newton QB Carolina Panthers
It was a toss up between Cam and Andy Dalton but Cam Newton has possessed some of the craziest numbers we have ever seen from a rookie QB. Completed 60 percent of his passes for over 4,000 yards and 35 total touchdowns ( 14 which were rushing a record for Qbs). Although his team finished 6-10 and Daltons team is in the playoffs Cam came into the NFL with tremendous hype by winning the Heisman and National Championship and he lived up to the hype.
Defensive Rookie of The Year
Aldon Smith OLB San Francisco 49ers
The rookie out of Missouri is just a flat out stud. This one was another close race between Aldon and Von Miller but Aldon has been money for San Fran down the stretch wrecking havoc off the edge for the #1 ranked Defense in the NFC. He had a slow start to the year but quickly grasp a hold of the scheme on D. He had 14 sacks this year and 37 tackles. He has a very bright future ahead of him and that's flat out scary for opposing teams.
Offensive Player of The Year
Drew Brees QB New Orleans Saints
UHMM yeah this guy is pretty good at what he does. Drew Brees had his best season ever as a QB with a staggering 5,476 yards passing which in a new NFL record which was previously held by Dan Marino. To add to that record he broke his own record for completion percentage with a 71.2 completion rating. He added a crazy 46 touchdowns threw the air this year and a 13-3 record and the NFC South crown. This man is just a magician with the ball and the stats just don't lie.
Defensive Player of The Year
Jason Pierre-Paul DE New York Giants
JPP!!!! This man had a extraordinary 2011 season in just his 2nd year in the NFL. He had 86 tackles this and a team leading 16.5 sacks this year. He was just everywhere for the Giants this year, making play after play for the NFC East Champion New York Giants. He added a blocked field goal vs the Cowboys at the end of regulation and had 2 force fumbles this year. He was the best and most consistent defender on the Giants this year and though guys like Jared Allen (22 sacks) and Terrell Suggs (14 sacks 7 forced fumbles) they didnt jump of the screen this year like JPP did and i am a Giants fan so this might be a little biased lol but people who watch the NFL know that this can be a possibility.
Coach of The Year
Jim Harbaugh San Francisco 49ers
From Stanford to the 49ers, Jim Harbaugh changed the culture of the 49ers. He resurrected Alex Smiths career and made him into a very good NFL QB. He changed all the bad habits that this franchised has inhabited since the days of Marrucci and Jeff Garcia. He has this defense playing at a high level on all levels of the field. No one had the 49ers sniffing the playoffs this year but Harbaugh changed everyone's mind real quick and has this team ready for a possible Super Bowl run.
Most Valuable Player
Drew Brees New Orleans Saints QB and Aaron Rodgers Green Bay Packers QB
Yes i have both them winning the MVP award. Rodgers was the clear front runner till the loss to the Chiefs ruined there perfect season and since that loss Brees has been unreal with 2 sensational games. But we cannot forget the season that Rodgers had. He had 45 tds and just 6 interceptions and most important just one loss this year. Brees as you read in the Offensive Player of The Year part had a remarkable year and deserves to be the MVP as well as Rodgers so why not have Co-MVPs for the 1st time since 2003.
